Appointment Updates

For those of you keeping up, we have had two of the four previously scheduled appointments. We went to the ENT to see if there was anything physical contributing to the congestion. OF COURSE, since we scheduled the appointment, the child has been free of congestion. Seriously. However, we kept the appointment and we are glad we did. Apparently, LA has another double ear infection DESPITE being on an antibiotic. So, we are finishing this round of antibiotics, starting a five day round of a different one and if the ears are not cleared up, we are most likely looking at tubes.

While we were there, the ENT ordered a hearing test. LA's hearing was slightly impaired, but the audiologist felt it was most likely due to the fluid in her ears. She couldn't get an accurate level of the fluid because LA now SCREAMS anytime anything comes near her ears. Poor little thing.

The ENT also ordered an x-ray to see if her adenoids are enlarged. The radiologist is in another building, so off we went. After a rather long wait, it was our turn. Apparently, to see the adenoids, the child's head must be at a certain angle, so the radiologist had me take the x-ray. I kid you not. She set everything up and then held LA down (who was screaming the entire time). I went behind the wall and pushed the button. Add that to my photography resume!

We have a follow up in two weeks with the ENT...oh joy...add another appointment to December!

Today we went to the pediatrician. LA has gained 5 ounces in the past 6 days putting her at a "hefty" 14 pounds 1 ounce! As I shared with you, her congestion has been gone since Sunday and her appetite has really increased the past few days. She is still on the medicine to make her hungry as well as the nasal spray, but we have not had to use the inhaler yet so that is good news. Last time we were at the pediatrician, he had blood drawn to check her thyroid. Let me tell you how much fun that was. Even the lab lady was worn out after. Well, her thyroid if fine, but a few other number were a little bit off. The pediatrician said it could have been from the sample sitting too long, BUT wanted to retest "just in case." Yep, you know what came next...another blood draw. So, we walk over to the lab and the tech was none too happy to see us (apparently LA and her tiny little veins made quite the impression). She even got another nurse as reinforcement. After much struggle, the blood was drawn, and we left.

Oh, I almost forgot. Our pedi pulled up the x-ray interpretation and her adenoids appear to be within normal size (hooray). It is so nice that all of this stuff is more accessible to the doctors now that it is electronic.

So, Justin is giving me grief about my long post, so next time I told him he can personally call each of you to give you the update!!
